Fiber optic cable types are either conductive or non conductive and are used in the field of
medicine, defense, data storage, broadcast/media, internet or networks and for industrial or commercial purposes. A
fiber optic cable has many optical fibers in it. The cables are coated with plastic layers which are placed in a
protective tube according to the environment suitability where the cable will be deployed. The fiber optic is a
flexible, thin transparent fiber which carries the light wave in a light pipe or the wave guide between two ends of
the fiber. Optical fibers are used for long distance communication lines which transfers higher bandwidth when
compared to other forms of communication. There is always a loss of energy in the normal metal wires due to
electromagnetic interference.
Fiber optic cable types are used in network connections, broadband connections in the field of defense,
broadcast where the communication lines are pretty longer and they also require a very higher bandwidth. Fiber
optic broadband types offer a great speed in gigabits. They have a very large carrying capacity and the signal need
not be strengthened or refreshed often hence there is continuous flow of high speed network. They also have a
greater resistance to outside environment such as the electromagnetic radiations, nearby cables and motor
induction, induction spikes etc. Even though they cost high initially the cost of maintaining them is very less.
The fiber optic cable types make sure that signals are transmitted quickly replacing the traditional copper wires.
The fiber optics uses the light medium for transformation instead of the electronic impulses used by the copper
wires. Light has the highest velocity and it can pass through any object with absolutely great speed.
Fiber optic cable types are 3 types namely single mode, multimode and plastic optical fiber. The cable has
transparent glass tube or pipe to allow the light to pass through to reduce the wastage and keep them at the
minimum. The light source is given from one end to the other end. This light source may be digital ones or ordinary
original ones i.e. the light source can be a LED or a laser. Even laser lights are subject to wastage and
dispersion and hence they are subject to loss of strength and bandwidth. Fiber optic cable connectors and needed to
be installed for this purpose and the repeaters are installed in order to refresh the signal in certain cases. The
fiber optic cable connector is used to connect the cables and ensure there is only a minimum wastage of light
source.
Fiber optic cable connector types are ST Connector, SC Connector, SMA Connector, FC Feed through, FIDDI
Connector etc. the optical cable connector joints the termination at the end and helps in quicker connection and
disconnection of the line. The connectors ensure that fibers are coupled and cores of fibers so that light is
passed and minimum loss is only incurred. These connectors are used in telephone companies at customer premises and
outside the plant. They are used in connecting the telephone line between the equipment and telephone plant.
Optical cross connections, connecting the optical testing equipments.
Coaxial cables are electrical cables like fiber optics which is surrounded by flexible, tubular layer which is
surrounded in the outside with conducting shield. Coaxial cable types are used in transmitting the radio signals
for the radio transmitters and receivers for internet connections, television cable networks etc. These cables have
inner and outer protection hence these cables can be fixed near to any metal objects or powerful electricity lines
as there won’t be any loss in transmission. The types of coaxial cables are Radiating, RG/6, tiraxial cable, twin
axial cable, semi rigid.
The fiber optic cable types have made sure that large bandwidth is carried for a long distance without any loss
during the transmission. It uses the light which is the fastest medium of energy resource which can pass through
any object. Even though they have a very high inlay cost the cost of maintaining them is very cheaper and they also
consume very little consumable and more importantly wastage is minimized.
